1. Statement of Intent


Pinnacle Sound Ltd is committed to ensuring, so far as is reasonably
practicable, the health, safety and welfare of our employees and others who
may be affected by our soundproofing activities, including domestic and
commercial clients, contractors, visitors and members of the public.


Our general policy is to:


Provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our work
activities.

 

  • Consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety.

  • Provide and maintain safe plant and equipment.

  • Ensure the safe handling and use of substances.

  • Provide information, instruction, training and supervision as necessary.

  • Ensure all employees are competent to do their tasks.

  • Prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health.

  • Maintain safe and healthy working conditions in all workplaces, including occupied premises.

  • Review and revise this policy as necessary, at least annually or after any significant change or incident.


Health and safety is a core management responsibility and an integral part of all
planning and operational decisions.

2. Organisation – Responsibilities


We employ less than 5 people, so individual responsibilities are clearly defined
and proportionate to our size and risks.

 

2.1 Managing Director


The Managing Director has overall responsibility for health and safety and will:

 

  • Ensure that this policy meets legal requirements and is implemented throughout Pinnacle Sound Ltd.

  • Provide adequate resources (time, money, people) for health and safety.

  • Ensure suitable and sufficient risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are completed and reviewed.

  • Appoint competent persons internally or externally to advise on health and safety where required.

  • Set health and safety objectives and monitor performance.

 


2.2 Health and Safety Co-ordinator


The Health and Safety Co-ordinator (this role may be combined with another
management role) will:

 

  • Co-ordinate day-to-day health and safety arrangements.

  • Assist with preparing RAMS for domestic and commercial soundproofing work.

  • Organise inductions, training and toolbox talks.

  • Carry out periodic workplace and site inspections and record findings.

  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and report findings to the

  • Managing Director.


2.3 Site Supervisors / Lead Installer


On each job, a Site Supervisor or Lead Installer will be appointed and will:

 

  • Ensure that RAMS and site rules are communicated to all operatives before work starts.

  • Check that PPE and equipment are available, suitable and used correctly.

  • Maintain safe working areas, housekeeping and segregation from clients and the public.

  • Stop work if conditions are unsafe and notify management.

  • Ensure that all accidents, incidents and near misses are reported and recorded.


2.4 Employees


All employees of Pinnacle Sound Limited must:

 

  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

  • Co-operate with management on all health and safety matters.

  • Follow all safe systems of work, RAMS, training and instructions given.

  • Use tools, equipment and PPE correctly and report any defects immediately.

  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, accidents, incidents and near misses without delay.


2.5 Subcontractors


Subcontractors engaged by Pinnacle Sound Limited must:

 

  • Demonstrate that they are competent and have suitable health and safety arrangements.

  • Provide their own risk assessments and method statements when required.

  • Comply with this policy, site rules and the instructions of Pinnacle Sound Ltd’s Site Supervisor.

  • Report any accidents, incidents or hazards immediately.


3. Arrangements – How Pinnacle Sound Limited Manages Health and Safety


Our arrangements follow the structure recommended for small businesses and
contractors.


3.1 Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)

  • Risk assessments will be carried out for all significant hazards, including working at height, manual handling of boards and insulation, use of power tools, noise, dust, COSHH substances, work in occupied premises and confined/limited spaces.   • Written RAMS will be prepared for higher-risk domestic and commercial projects and shared with employees and relevant contractors.

  • Risk assessments will be reviewed annually or when work activities, equipment or materials change, or after an incident.

 


3.2 Training, Competence and Induction

 

  • All new employees will receive a company health and safety induction covering this policy, emergency arrangements and key risks from soundproofing work.

  • Task-specific training will be provided where required (e.g. working at height, manual handling, abrasive wheels, safe use of towers and MEWPs, dust control, face-fit testing for RPE).

  • Where required by clients or principal contractors, operatives will hold CSCS or equivalent cards.

  • Refresher training and toolbox talks will be given at appropriate intervals and recorded.


3.3 Domestic and Commercial Work Arrangements

 

  • In domestic premises, particular care will be taken to protect residents from trip hazards, dust, noise and access to work areas, and to respect privacy and property.

  • Work areas will be clearly defined, with signage and barriers where necessary to protect clients, staff and the public.


3.4 Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

 

  • All hazardous products (e.g. adhesives, sealants, foams, fillers, cleaners) will be identified and assessed under COSHH.

  • Safety Data Sheets will be obtained and control measures implemented, including ventilation, substitution with less hazardous products where practicable, and appropriate PPE.

  • Employees will be informed of COSHH findings and trained in safe use, storage and disposal.

  • COSHH assessments will be reviewed annually or when products or processes change.

3.5 Dust, Noise and Vibration

 

  • Cutting, drilling and sanding will be planned to minimise dust, using local extraction, on-tool extraction or dampening methods where reasonably practicable.

  • Suitable RPE (e.g. FFP3 masks) will be provided where residual dust cannot be adequately controlled by other means and face-fit testing carried out where required.

  • Noise levels will be controlled through selection of quieter equipment, time limitations and hearing protection where necessary.

  • Exposure to hand-arm vibration from particular tools will be managed through suitable equipment selection and time management in line with relevant guidance.


3.6 Working at Height

 

  • Work at height (e.g. ceiling treatments, high-level partitions) will be planned, and the safest practicable access method used.

  • Ladders will only be used for short-duration work of low risk where safer alternatives (e.g. podiums, towers, MEWPs) are not reasonably practicable.

  • Towers and MEWPs will only be erected/operated by trained and competent persons.

  • Where there is a risk of falling materials, exclusion zones and suitable edge protection will be used.


3.7 Manual Handling

 

  • Manual handling tasks such as lifting and carrying acoustic boards, insulation rolls and equipment will be assessed.

  • Team lifting, mechanical aids and breaking down loads will be used to reduce risk.

  • Employees will receive manual handling training and are instructed to avoid unsafe lifts.


3.8 Plant, Tools and Equipment

 

  • All tools and equipment will be selected to be suitable for their intended purpose and maintained in safe condition.

  • Pre-use checks will be carried out by operatives; unsafe equipment will be removed from service and reported.

  • Portable electrical equipment will be inspected and, where appropriate, PAT tested at suitable intervals.

 


3.9 Housekeeping and Site Welfare

 

  • Work areas will be kept as tidy as possible, with materials stored safely and waste removed regularly.

  • Walkways and fire exits will be kept clear.

  • Suitable welfare arrangements (toilets, washing, drinking water, rest facilities will be confirmed on each site, either via the principal contractor or provided/ arranged by Pinnacle Sound Ltd as appropriate to the job.


3.10 Fire Safety and Hot Work

 

  • Fire risks will be considered as part of the site risk assessment, especially where flammable materials (e.g. foams, adhesives) are used.

  • Where hot work is required, we will comply with any permit-to-work system in place and ensure appropriate fire precautions and fire-watch arrangements.

  • All employees will follow the local fire procedures, know escape routes and assembly points, and keep these clear at all times.


3.11 First Aid, Accidents and Incident Reporting

  • Adequate first-aid provision will be ensured for each job through appointed persons, first-aid kits and, where necessary, trained first-aiders.

  • All accidents, near misses and cases of work-related ill health will be recorded and investigated, with corrective actions taken and communicated.

  • Where required, reportable incidents will be notified to the enforcing authority under RIDDOR.


3.12 Consultation with Employees

 

  • Employees will be consulted on health and safety matters through regular briefings, toolbox talks and informal discussions.

  • Suggestions for improvements are actively encouraged, and concerns can be raised directly with the Managing Director or Health and Safety Co-ordinator without fear of reprisal.


3.13 Monitoring and Review

 

  • Periodic checks of work activities, equipment and compliance with RAMS will  be carried out.

  • Accident and incident data will be reviewed to identify trends and  opportunities for improvement.

  • This policy and related arrangements will be reviewed at least annually and whenever there are significant changes in our business, the nature of our work, or relevant legislation.


4. Communication of this Policy

 

  • This policy will be issued to all employees of Pinnacle Sound Ltd and explained at induction.

  • It will be made available to clients, principal contractors and subcontractors on request.

  • The Statement of Intent will be displayed at our main business address or online location accessible to staff.
